Re-Registeration

As an existing NJFC member you should have received an email from Northcote Junior Football Club (donotreply@sportstg.com) containing a direct link to your player’s registration record. This is the easiest way to re-register, however if you are registering more than one player per family please use this link to claim the sibling discount: https://membership.sportstg.com/regoform.cgi?aID=5442&pKey=1153b7ac07fd1005641890b8f41f907a&cID=13271&formID=36056

If you haven’t received the Sports TG email please check your spam folder.

The NFL are encouraging all existing members to upload a proof of age document (e.g. birth certificate, passport) as part of the registration process this season. We are also asking for additional information this year to help with the placement of players into teams, so please also have this information ready before you register:

Dates your player will be away during the season;

Times on Sundays your player will be unavailable; and

The names of up to 3 friends your player would like to be in the same team with.

Also, just a further reminder that online payment is now compulsory at the time of registration, so you will need credit card/banking details handy when you register as well. If you are having difficulty in paying the fees upfront please email pwo@njfc.com.au

Thanks!

If you are interested please email president@njfc.com.au or call 0429 663 580.

Summer Training Program

We are excited to offer a new out of season training program for girls and boys from our older age groups (U12 – U17).

Sessions will be run by Elly Fourlis and held at McDonell Park on Tuesday evenings starting on 14 November.

NJFC AGM

Please come along to the NJFC AGM on Wednesday 18 October.

All committee positions will be declared vacant and a new Committee elected; positions available are:

President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer

Football Operations Manager, Property Manager, Canteen Manager, Grounds Manager

There are also other smaller roles around the club where we also need people to help out, such as First Aid Coordinator.

Free Kick Program wins!

Our Free Kick Program was announced as the Northcote Leader winner at the Leader Local Grants breakfast awards on Thursday.

This Program gives kids from disadvantaged backgrounds a chance to participate in community sport that they would not otherwise have.

The $1000 prize will be very welcome in supporting the Program. Thanks to all who voted and to Matt Manterfield for attending the award announcement on behalf of NJFC.

Scoreboard

If you follow our Facebook page you might have noticed that the scoreboard is finally up!

The electrical work connecting the power supply remains to be done, but all will be well and truly ready for the start of next season.

NJFC AGM

Notice will soon be sent out for the NJFC AGM on Wednesday 18 October. All committee positions will be declared vacant and a new Committee elected. Several members from the 2017 Committee have expressed an intention to stay on but new Members, particularly from the younger age groups, would be very welcome. Thank you to Maurice Petrilli who has filled the role of Treasurer for the past three years but is stepping down, meaning we will be in need of a Treasurer. This is not an onerous role for someone with a background in finance, primarily involving setting and monitoring budgets, paying invoices, maintaining financial records and preparing annual statements.

If you don’t have the time to commit to a Committee role there are various other positions around the club where you could help out – including Property Manager, Grounds Manager and First Aid Coordinator. Alternatively there might be other things around the club that you feel need addressing, but are just in need of someone to take charge. If you are interested in doing what you can to help make our club better I encourage you to come along on 18 October.

NJFC Policy Review

Please take some time to read and offer comments on the NJFC Player Placement Policy, the first in a suite of policies to address issues arising from our review of the 2017 season. The policy is available here- NJFC Player Placement Policy draft Sept 2017, and comments should be provided to Melinda Story on mstory161@gmail.com by 16 October.

The next policies to made available will be the Registration Policy, the Age Group Policy and the Rotation Policy

Finals Football – Northcote Park Seniors & Reserves

Hi All,

Week 2 of the finals has both the Northcote Park Seniors and Reserves playing in the second semi final.  Unfortunately the under 19s bowed out last week but with most of the team bottom aged they will be back bigger and better for a big tilt at the flag next year.  They say a week is a long time in footy, I’m hoping 3 weeks seems an eternity for Macleod as 3 weeks ago they defeated Northcote Park by 14 goals.  It will be different on Saturday though with 8 changes to that team including the inclusions of the 4 Collingwood VFL players, Ash Close, Jackson Starcevich, Jordan Collopy and Marty Hore.

It would be great to see the junior club supporting the seniors of which most played their football with us as juniors.  Game kicks off at 2:10 up at Cramer St opposite the market, the reserves kick off at 11:55 are also very strong with 13 of the players having played senior football this year.  For those of you that haven’t seen the seniors play,  its very, very good football and well worth the trip.

Go Cougars

Steve

Planning for 2018

Many of our current Committee Members have indicated that they plan to stay on for the 2018 season, but we will need some more new people to get involved as well.

Maurice Petrilli is stepping down as Treasurer after three years so we will need someone new to fill this role. Maurice has been a great asset to the Club in keeping our finances in a strong position, enabling us to set aside funds for things of benefit to the players, such as the bags that were provided this year. Big Thank you to Maurice for all his work over the past three years.

The Treasurer role mainly involves preparation and monitoring of the budget, paying invoices, and preparing financial reports for Committee meetings and for the AGM. It is not a difficult role for someone with a finance background and a few hours each week to spare.

If you think you might be interested in becoming Treasurer or taking on another role at our Club please chat to me at Presentation Day or otherwise let me know.

The new Committee will be elected at the AGM on Wednesday 18 October; it would be great to see a big turnout there to support the Club.

Grand Final Results

U12 Silver Grand Final

A valiant effort from our Under 12 Silver team was not enough to overcome the strong Keon Park side, with Northcote going down 10.7.67 to 3.3.21.

A terrific team effort from the boys and girls to make it to the grand final, and a great experience to learn from.

The team and supporters unwound with pizza and a parents v kids game back at McDonell Park, with a good time had by all and no serious injuries to report.

Presentation Day

Presentation Day is on Sunday 27 August.

We hope to see you all at Presentation Day on Sunday 27 August.

Sausages will be on offer (gold coin donation) with a few families from each team bringing along a plate of food to share – please contact your Team Manager if you can help.

If bringing a salad or dessert please also supply a list of ingredients.

Finals News & Results

Apart from an exciting win for U12 Silver, the Preliminary Final results unfortunately didn’t go our way. It was a great effort by our U11 Coaches, Team Managers, other volunteers and especially the players to have both teams contesting Preliminary Finals. The boys should be very proud of what they’ve achieved in making it to the second week of their first finals campaign. U14s have moved up a division from last year and shouldn’t be too disappointed to lose to a powerful side, and they wouldn’t have made it as far as they have without strong support from our U13s. U14 Girls have accomplished a lot in their first season and should be really pleased with how far they’ve come as a team this year and the improvements that all players have made.

A big thank you to the U12 Girls who have helped the U12 Silver team make it to the last match of the season.

This is our only team playing in a Grand Final this year, so it would be great to see as many supporters as possible make the trip out to Mernda to cheer the boys and girls on.

There will be a pizza lunch back at McDonell Park clubrooms from 1pm for players, families and supporters, win or lose.

Semi Finals Results

There were some nerve-wracking moments for the supporters of our semi-final teams last Sunday, with two matches being drawn at full time and needing extra time to get a result. U14 girls lost to Montmorency by 3 points in extra time but finished in the top 2 so have the double chance. U14 boys had a good win over Wallan, with help from a number of U13s. U12 Silver held on for a close win against Lalor, and U11 Gold get to use their double chance after a narrow loss to Mill Park. Last but not least U11 Blue had a thrilling win over Hurstbridge in extra time.

Under-11 Green Mill Park 5.6-36 def Northcote Gold 4.7-31
Under-11 Red Northcote Blue 4.5-29 def Hurstbridge 3.3-21
Under-12 Silver Northcote Gold 6.6-42 def Lalor 5.2-32
 Under-14 Red Northcote 9.11-65 def Wallan 3.2-20
Under-14 Girls Blue Montmorency 2.6-18 def Northcote 2.3-15

We now have five teams participating in Preliminary Finals this coming weekend, so please get along to support them if you can. Under 11s are both playing at C.T. Barling Park in Reservoir, which is not so far to travel to watch some footy, so why not make a day of cheering on our teams as they try to win their way through to the Grand Final.

50 Games (and finals)

Congratulations to Paddy Sullivan (Under 11 Blue), Lewis Manterfield and Hayden Kanjou (Under 11 Gold),

and Alistair Thondan & Emanoil Nedelkos (Under 12 Silver) who are playing their 50th games this weekend.

Good luck to all!

Home and Away Season Roundup

Well done to all teams on finishing the 2017 home and away season.

Our Under 9 and Under 10 Coaches and Team Managers can now enjoy a well-earned sleep-in on Sunday mornings after a season of early starts.

Under 10 Girls will be sad to see the end of the season, with more and more players joining the team as the season progressed.

Our young Under 12 Girls side have shown real grit and determination to keep going in the face of low numbers, and were rewarded with a win in Round 13.

Our 12 Blue side were competitive in Red division after being promoted from Silver division where they dominated.

Our Under 13s, who have had a disrupted season with lower than expected numbers of players available necessitating a combined side, remained competitive in most games in Red division.

Thanks to all who pitched in to get the teams out on the field each week.

Congratulations to Robert Nave, Anthonie Bishop and Sam Mews from Under 11 Blue, and Rory Dance and Marcus Chatzitrifonos from Under 11 Gold who are all playing their 50th games this week in their first finals.

Training Sunday Under 14 Girls -Update

Hi All,

Sorry for the late notice but we have decided to have a training session on Sunday at 11.30 (new time) on the back oval.  I raised the idea with the team last week and the majority of the girls were keen to have a run.  I understand some would have made plans with the bye scheduled, but if the girls can make it on Sunday it would be great.  We need to build on such a strong performance last week and  I just think I need to grab every opportunity to put work into the girls for the simple reason that they are embracing their footy and getting better and better every week!  Hopefully we have 5 weeks until we play in the grand final which allows us  the opportunity to continue to get better and better, but remember the only way to get better is through hard work.  This weeks training was great with 5 girls attending training on Tuesday and 4 on Thursday, along with great numbers on Wednesday night.  To be honest our group have consistently had the best numbers at training of all the teams at Northcote week after week, which is a credit to the entire squad (it may be because they just love a chat with their mates, but when its time to get down to business they get the job done).

If you can get their early to support Faydia and the under 12 team who have yet to win a game it would also be appreciated.  They are mainly made up of bottom age girls and have found it tough this season but have never given up and continue to improve every week, they deserve your support!

Drivers needed for Free Kick Program

Thank you to those people who have volunteered to help drive the Free Kick bus over the next few weeks. We’re still looking for a few more parents who can help with transporting kids to and from training on any one Tuesday or Wednesday night – we need a driver and a supervisor for each minibus trip. A current drivers licence and Working with Children Check are required (an endorsed licence is not needed). Volunteers would need to be in Fitzroy for the first pick up at 4.45 on the day. If there is a day when you can help out please let me know.
