Most recent news from Northcote Junior Football Club
Last month Venesa Bestel (pictured) was appointed as the NJFC's new canteen manager. Venesa has worked tirelessly for the club since her kids Xavier and Tabitha began playing at the start of last year. But she needs help.
She especially needs help this Sunday. We'll have six teams at the ground and two 8.30am matches. Venesa is literally working 12 hours in the canteen each Sunday at the moment. The lack of volunteers means she isn't even getting out of the place to see Xavier play.
So when you arrive at the ground this week, head straight to the canteen. You can do an hour's work and knock off when your kid's game starts, and make life easier for Venesa.

The NJFC has appointed several additional assistant coaches to our teams.
Mark's philosophies for junior football are: "keep it simple, keep it interesting and keep it fun". He has previously coached junior football at Under-14s & Under-16s for several years at clubs based in the Eastern and Western districts as well as coaching senior football. Earlier he played in the Eastern League and at Warburton and Yarra Junction "until finally succumbing to injuries and age". He works as a Health & Safety Officer in the construction industry. Mark was an assistant coach of the Under-15s earlier this year. He will help coach Dave Howe at the Under-14s.
Brett is a former rugby player who has taken up AFL coaching since moving from New South Wales.
Angelo joined the NJFC in 2012 after a decade coaching junior sport, including eight years coaching at the West Preston Junior Football Club. In 2007 he won the junior category coaching award from the National Coaches Association. Angelo works as a safety manager with accreditations including occupational health and safety, first aid, counselling and reduction of workplace bullying. Ange coached the NJFC Under-15s in 2012 and early 2013; he will now help coach Eddie Arabi and assistant coach Nathan Bennett at the Under-11s.

Two NJFC committee members have resigned over the past six weeks. Social secretary Rosie Hore has had to depart for family reasons. Grounds manager Andy Macdonald's son Jedd is now playing with Whittlesea due to the absence of an NJFC Under-15s this year.
Both members have made a big contribution, both in organising activities and in helping steer the committee. Andy has spent several years on the comittee dealing with grounds issues from line-marking to negotiations with Darebin Council. Rosie organised 2011's 50 years dinner dance and several other events and has been involved in the refocusing of social events on McDonnell Park.
Over the past 18 month we have been changing the committee to a body focused on strategic issues. Positions such as grounds manager and social secretary are now open to anyone at the club, whether they are on the committee or not. If you're interested in helping out on either of these tasks, please let us know - email or call us on 03 8669 1885.

Our apologies for the lack of updating and late email at the end of the first week of May. (The cable modem died; we've now got a back-up service in place.)
