Northcote Junior Football Club is a community-based club with over 300 players ranging from 5 to 18 years of age. Over 250 families make up our club and are local to Northcote, Thornbury, Preston and other nearby suburbs.

The Cougars are the only Junior Football Club in Northcote, with its home ground at McDonell Park. We play teams from across Melbourne’s inner suburbs, as part of the Yarra Junior Football League.

Our members and volunteers are committed to a strong future for our club through being welcoming and supportive of all children and teenagers (and their families) who want to learn and play football.

We are a family-friendly environment where parents can relax while their children have fun playing footy with their mates, learn the game’s skills and disciplines, and understand values such as personal effort and teamwork.

Girls Program

We are particularly proud of our girls football program which includes a girls-only Auskick program for kindergarten and primary school aged girls as well as underage football teams from Under 10 all the way through to Under 16/ 18.  We have worked hard to tailor our football programs to the needs of our female players so that they have an enjoyable and rewarding football experience.

Boys Program

Our boys football program includes three Auskick levels for kindergarten and early primary aged boys as well as underage football teams from Under 9 to all the way through to Youth Boys.

What we believe in

At Northcote Junior Football Club we reflect the values of our community including:

Respect: fairness, tolerance, discipline

Participation: individual, family, community

Team: cooperation, inclusion, enjoyment

Growth: opportunity, development, improvement

The NJFC is committed to providing our local youth with the support and facilities to learn, play and enjoy football through:

  • Encouraging children to participate, improve their football and social skills while creating and building lasting friendships;
  • Creating an environment where all children are equal and provided with the opportunity to achieve their potential;
  • Promoting the values of Respect, Participation, Team and Growth;
  • Adding value to the Northcote and surrounding Community.

We continue to demonstrate this commitment through our growing girls participation and the ongoing support for the Free Kick program.  The Free Kick program encourages participation by disadvantaged children through funding registration fees, providing uniforms and arranging transport to and from games.

New players and supporters are always welcome at the Cougars.  If you have any questions feel free to drop me an email at or give me a call on 0419 011 628.
